This is Katy sitting in her favorite window, our garden window in the master bedroom.
From here, she could watch the world go by, watch the rain without getting wet, watch the snow without getting cold, and watch the BIRDS... without getting to taste them.
On Dec. 28th, 2002, Katy went to live with my daughter, Amy. Amy had asked me if Katy could come stay with her until Katy's final days. It was a hard decision to let Katy go, she had been with me for 12 years. But I know Amy grew up with her and cares about animals as much as I do. Katy & Amy will be safe and happy together.
Katy had been the "ruler" of the house for most of her 12 years, but after we got the two latest cats (Midnight & Shadow) we noticed Katy's weight drop and some "accidents" happen away from the litter box. In watching the cats interact, it was clear that the kittens would want to play with Katy, but Katy was too old to play. Katy would retreat to the living room, sometimes not being able to eat or use the litter box.
In late fall when we noticed that Katy had lost weigh, we decided to let her move into our bedroom, where she could enjoy the garden window and have her own litter box, and her own food & water dish.
Quickly we noticed her weight return to normal and her spirits lift. Whenever we walked in the room, Katy would start talking to us. Often we would open the door and encourage her to leave the bedroom and visit the other cats. Katy would walk around the other cats, hiss at them and head back to the bedroom door, sit in front of it meowing until we would open the door and let her back in "her" room.
Amy lives about 120 miles away from us, so we won't see Katy very often, but I would like to visit when I can. I know Katy's days are numbered, being 12-13 years old, but I am hopeful she has several good years left.
